A God Moment

May 2, 2019 By carolyn 6 Comments

I was going to have a totally different topic as my next blog but I had to write about the God moment that occurred this morning.

Before I left home this morning for some reason I took a few dollars in coins from the coin bucket to buy a drink. I don’t know why because I don’t drink sodas and very rarely use a vending machine. But nevertheless I put the change in my pocket book.

When I was coming up to our store a young teen on a bicycle approached me asking if I had any change to buy something to drink. He wanted to buy an Arizona Tea. I knew then why I grabbed the coins. It wasn’t for me. It was for him. I told him that I had just grabbed some coins this morning from our change bucket and would give them to him.

But I couldn’t leave it at that. I had to find out why this polite, young teen wasn’t in school. So I started to ask him some questions. It turns out that this is only his third time skipping. I had to make sure he wasn’t skipping because he was being bullied. That’s not why he’s skipping. It’s because school is borrr-ing.

I asked him what he wanted to do with his life – graduate and get a job. I asked him some questions: “How?” “How can you do that if you skip school?” “Do you want to end up homeless and living in the woods because you don’t have a job?” He doesn’t want a life like that.

I talked to him about how it seems like it’s going to be a long time before he reaches adulthood. I understood because I was once in 7th grade. But here I am nearly 65 and the years have flown by fast. The years are going to fly by fast for him too. So make use of them.

I encouraged him to buy his soft drink, then go to school and also find a teacher that he could talk to.

I told him that I would pray for him. I have prayed for him and will continue to pray.

It wasn’t by happenstance that we met. It was a God moment.

Definitely a “God moment”. So thankful you were able to plant some seeds in this young man’s life. You may be the only person who, up to this point, has taken the time to talk with him about his future and what it requires to be productive. May God multiply those seeds in his life and give him good direction in the days and years ahead!!! So thankful you were obedient to the direction you were given this AM.

I continue to pray for him. The Lord knows where he is and where he’s at in this point of his life.
