Tide Chart

March 25, 2020 By carolyn Leave a Comment

What is so important about a tide chart from 2009? Nothing. There’s no importance at all except for the memories it brings to me.

When I was a child the first thing my father would do when he read the morning paper would be to cut out the tide chart. This would result in a hole in the paper. Hopefully there wasn’t an article on the other side that someone in the family wanted to read.

Fishing was his hobby so he wanted to know the tides so he would know when it would be the best time to fish. He continued to daily cut out the tide charts even into his late 80’s when he had stopped fishing.

Recently I was in their house on a visit and was looking through a drawer to see if I could find some random pictures or other mementos when I came across this tide chart. How it survived and didn’t get thrown away I don’t know. But I’m glad it didn’t for the memories it brought back to me.

Whom Shall I Fear?

March 18, 2020 By carolyn Leave a Comment

In my blog “Upside Down” I write, ” What can I hold onto when nothing makes sense?  God.  I have to remember that He is the God of Angel Armies.  Whom shall I fear?” The following song is one that I’ve been listening to lately to remind me of “Whom shall I fear?” Click on the link below to listen to the song.

Whom Shall I Fear by Chris Tomlin

You hear me when I call
You are my morning song
Though darkness fills the night
It cannot hide the light

Whom shall I fear

You crush the enemy
Underneath my feet
You are my sword and shield
Though troubles linger still

Whom shall I fear

I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind

The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine

The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

My strength is in your name
For you alone can save
You will deliver me
Yours is the victory

Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear

I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind

The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine

The God of angel armies
Is always by my side

Upside Down

March 18, 2020 By carolyn 1 Comment

The world has turned upside down the past week or so.  It’s so easy to get discouraged but I HAVE to remember who is in charge – the God of Angels Armies.  He’s ALWAYS on my side.  If I can’t trust God then there is no one whom I can trust – no one.  He is the creator of the universe. He is All Powerful, All Knowing and Everywhere.  There is nothing that has taken Him by surprise, including all this craziness with COVID-19.  We don’t always or should say rarely understand why things like this happen.

This evening I read a funny story from the book “Can’t Make This Stuff Up” by Susannah B Lewis.  We sure can’t make this stuff up about what has happened the past few weeks with COVID-19.   Something so small has turned the world upside down.  If we had been told a few weeks ago that this was going to happen we wouldn’t have believed it.  Food shortages – Paper shortages – Cleaner Shortages – Schools closed – All events over 10 canceled – All bars closed starting on St Patrick’s Day of all days – Restaurant limited on seating – and much more. Truth has been much stranger than fiction recently.

Who would have thought that all of our well planned and spur of the moment activities, trips, etc are now not occurring?   The uncertainty of it all. The unknown.  Not knowing when things will get back to normal.  What can I hold onto when nothing makes sense?   God.  I have to remember that He is the God of Angel Armies.  Whom shall I fear?
