Unchangeable

May 31, 2019 By carolyn Leave a Comment

Malachi 3:6a “I the Lord do not change”.

1 Samuel 15:29 “Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.”

How reassuring to know that the Lord, our God, does not change. Since He does not lie and has said that He does not change He would be a liar if He did change. How can He be trusted if He lies?

David wrote in Psalm 18:
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
   my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

If God kept changing how could He be my rock, my fortress, my deliverer? Where would I take refuge? Who would shield me, save me, be my stronghold?

Peter quotes Isaiah in 1 Peter 1:24-25
“All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.”

Where do we learn about God? We learn about Him in His Word, the Bible. We learn His attributes and how to have a relationship with him. If His word doesn’t endure forever how would we know if He endures forever?

Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

If God changed how would we ever have the assurance that Jesus is the only way to Him? How could we be sure about our salvation?

Hebrews 13:8 ” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

I am assured that He does not change because He is the same today as He was yesterday and will be the same tomorrow as He is today.

So no matter what I’m going through I am comforted knowing that God is my rock, is my fortress, is my deliverer. I can take refugee in Him and He will shield me. I know that I am forgiven and saved through Jesus, His Son. He is my stronghold so I can rest in Him. “And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ” Psalm 23:6b
